SV21 looks to build on successful Ginetta GT5 debut at Rockingham

The leading SV21 team is looking to build upon a solid start to its assault on the 2013 Ginetta GT5 Challenge this weekend (4-5 May), when the action resumes at the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, Northamptonshire.

Scuderia Vittoria combined its efforts with Strata 21 to form the SV21 squad for its first attack on the ultra-competitive series – which runs in support of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship – with drivers David Pittard and Alex Drabble.

Pittard, who entered the fray as the reigning Britcar Endurance Series Class 4 Champion, stunned his championship counterparts by qualifying second for the first round of the season at Oulton Park.

The Hertfordshire-based racer, backed by Nationwide Driver Supply – a market-leading provider of LGV and HGV driving support to some of the nation’s most prominent logistics operations – salvaged two fourth places and a sixth from a trio of incident-packed races that weekend and will look to continue his strong run of form this time out at ‘The Rock’.

Drabble, meanwhile, had a tough time during the season-opening round of the championship at the picturesque Cheshire circuit.

The 20-year old progressed massively as the weekend rolled on and continued to show signs of improvement during a recent test day at Brands Hatch, to the delight of his team.

Both SV21-prepared Ginettas will sport updated brake callipers this weekend and, having featured on the podium during his British Formula Ford outing at Rockingham in 2012, the team confidently predicts top eight finishes for Drabble.

SV21 Director, Piers Masarati, said: “We set a solid foundation for the year ahead at Oulton Park’s season opener and are brimming with confidence ahead of this weekend’s round at Rockingham.

“David (Pittard) had a highly encouraging start to his campaign and we hope to see him back at the sharp end once again. Alex (Drabble) is in only his second ever season of racing and has impressed us with his maturity. We’ve seen him progress at a vast rate over the last few weeks and feel he will be in a position to mix it in the top eight places.”

He added: “Strata 21 has done an excellent job preparing the cars – we have good pace – and we must thank Nationwide Driver Supply for its continued support too.”
