Moto Cross

Monday 28th March 2011

Maxxis Apico Suzuki, rider Steven Clarke, ended round two of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship full of optimism yesterday, as the RM-Z250 rider progressed steadily through race day, moving up the order to finish in eighth overall.

With glorious weather in the run-up to race day at the Canada Heights track, Clarke started his three-race battle on the back foot after hitting the gate in the opening moto and leaving himself plenty of work to do, crossing the line in a disappointing 14th. But determined to show his potential in the second race of the day, Clarke gated without a hitch this time and was into the top-ten straight away, holding ninth to the flag and going one better in the final race of the day to pull back through to eighth overall on the day.

Steven Clarke:
"Things didn't start too good, but I knew that if I just got my head down that I could improve in the following races. The bike felt really good, and although I obviously wish to be further up the order, things are starting to come good and I'm feeling more and more comfortable on the bike, considering I've missed time due to injury. I'm looking forward to getting back out this weekend at the first round of the Red Bull Pro Nationals."

Team Manager, Rob Hooper:
"We've not had the best start to the season, what with Steven's injury and Kayne's visa issues that still prevent him from being with us, but Steven's feeling more confident the more time he spends on the bike and I'm hopeful we'll see Kayne with us in time for the next round of the British Championships. It's been tough but I'm confident that by the time Kayne arrives with us, we'll have a strong team that can challenge for podiums consistently."
