Round three of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship held at Lyng in Norfolk, offered near perfect conditions to the Relentless Suzuki by TAS MX team yesterday, as Mel Pocock set out to improve on his fifth place in the MX2 series standings and Gordon Crockard looked to put his crash at Canada Heights behind him.

Beginning his weekend with a great second place in qualifying, Pocock's luck took an almost immediate turn for the worse in the opening race of the day, after an electrical problem forced the RM-Z250 rider to retire. Determined to put the misfortune behind him, Pocock made the most of the conditions in the following races, riding to a pair of great third place finishes and ending the weekend fourth in the standings.

Mel Pocock: "That was a pretty turbulent day to say the least. The conditions were great and I was really pleased to split Osbourne and Tonus in qualifying. Naturally after that, I felt really positive for the races, so after the DNF in race one, I really had to regroup and gather my thoughts. Thankfully, the RM-Z250 just gives me so much confidence and allowed me to push back to a pair of solid results which has helped my championship and confidence at the same time. Big thanks to the team yet again."

In MX1, Crockard's determination to put the disappointment of Canada Heights behind him sadly didn't follow the script, after struggling in qualifying to get a clear lap and still not back to full-fitness. A crash from a lapse of concentration in the open race, followed by a non-fault get-off in the second, saw the the Irishman's best result of the day in the final moto with a gritty ninth placed finish.

Gordon Crockard: "Not a great day really. I'd hoped for a little more, but I still don't feel 100% and just couldn't push like I wanted to. The first crash was my fault, but the second one was frustrating to say the least. Thankfully we salvaged a bit at the end with ninth and I can go into the next round hopefully in a better shape physically."

Team manager, Adam Lyons: "A day of highs and lows. The first race in MX2 was a real shame. Mel proved his speed in qualifying and so to end the first race this way was a real shame for him. But he's got a wise head on young shoulders and so put it behind him to bring home two podium results for the team is fantastic. For Gordon, this weekend had the potential to be tough and it was, but in fairness without the crash in the second race that wasn't his fault he could have ended the day with two top-ten finishes. Once again I can't fault anyones effort or enthusiasm - a true team effort.
