British Touring Car Championships

This is a series of races held each year in the United Kingdom

Cars must comply with the FIA's Super 2000 technical regulations and models used must be available to purchase in manufacturer showrooms across Europe to qualify for the drivers' and manufacturers'/constructors' championship. The BTCC is still the only touring car championship in the world that allows cars powered by petrol, diesel, gas or bio-ethanol to compete.

Tyres are provided by the BTCC's exclusive supplier Dunlop and the number of new slick dry weather tyres is limited (to 16 per event). There is no limit on the use of treaded 'wet weather' tyres. A maximum of four engines are allowed per car during the season.

On the Saturday afternoon before race day, a 30-minute qualifying session is held. The times from this dictate the starting grid order for the first race (of three). When drivers have set equal times, the driver who set it first is prioritised.
The starting grids for the second and third races of the day are decided by the finishing order of the races preceding them. However, for the third race the top finishers are reversed from position six, seven, eight, nine or ten on the grid - the number is drawn after the second race. So for example, if number seven was drawn, the new race order (using original grid positions) would be: 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12...

After each race, weight handicaps are added as follows: 1st - 45kgs; 2nd - 36kgs; 3rd - 27kgs; 4th - 18kgs; 5th - 9kgs. The ballast determined by race three is added to the top five drivers' cars for the qualifying session and the first race of the next round.
